10 years

It's been 10 years. TEN YEARS. That's inconceivable to me. Where in the world did 10 years go? Why don't I feel like a real adult? How am I older than Renee Zellweger's character in Jerry McGuire?? I'm torn between feeling like I blinked and got 10 years older VS feeling like high school never even really happened in this lifetime. Do you remember what life was like in high school? The relationships and drama? The mean teachers and the favorites? How important everything was? I remember kids getting detention for hurling pudding at each other during lunch period. I remember how the cafeteria would be transformed during 4th block so that the dance could start right after school. I remember watching way too much "MythBusters" in Physical Science class. I remember the police showing up a handful of times. I remember walking to the library after school, with the sole purpose being simply to sit at the library. I do not remember a single cell phone. Wait - I take it back. Ashley had a phone. Same cell number to this day, I believe... Wow. Once you tip the iceberg, so many memories start pouring back. Getting up with 5 minutes to get ready for the bus. Reading all the time. Always reading. Guys, my high school reunion is this Saturday. I'm going to have a picnic with a bunch of moms and dads, teachers and nurses, real grown ups. Any chance I'll fool them into thinking I'm a part of the grown up club? Maybe if I wear my sidebraid and hipster glasses, snapchatting the whole time, they'll see how adult I am??

Sarah :: Plucky in Love

Sarah, aka "Plucky", blogs on the reg, unless she's on vacation or there's a Pretty Little Liars marathon or she's mulling over the implications of the phrase "on fleek." She can't live without iced coffee, a portable phone charger, or equal pay. Say hello!

  1. I went to my twenty year high school reunion in March and I felt like I was stuck in a room with a bunch of middle aged people. Surely I don't belong here I kept thinking, some of those people looked like what I thought 38 should look like when I was 18. So scary.

  4. Oh gosh, wow! I still have a few more years until my 10 year. I missed my 5 year, because we had booked our cruise for that week... I guess I wasn't too too crushed. I hope to go to my 10 year though. :) I hope that it is wonderful. One thing I have found, even just via social media and random run-ins with people from HS is that they are all so nice now. Cliques are so much less existent. :) Though my first thoughts are always that my group of friends from HS wouldn't show up, so I would be wondering from group to group. Enjoy being a grown up! :) XO -Alexandra
