Plucky Ponderings :: Independence Day

For most of my life, being i-n-d-e-n-d-e-n-t meant being all alone, making choice, doing my thang, and disregarding anyone who said otherwise. That's true freedom, right?? Making my own choices regardless of anyone else's thought or opinions?? WRONG-O.
Being "independent" means that we recognize that every single choice we make is our own. If we value someone's opinions, choose to abstain from an activity, or to defer to someone with better judgment in the situation, we're still making a choice
I am a gal who struggles a lot with independence. I want to go where I want to go, see what I want to see, hear what I want to hear, and be exactly who I want to be. And that is fan-freaking-tastic...except... I LOVE people. I have people in my life that I want to be there for, to impress, to do the right thing, to support, to love.
What I keep forgetting is that it's my choice as to what's the most important and that what I want OR what I feel is important.
We are so fortunate to live in a country where bombs bursting in the night sky are minor, nonthreatening issues compared to our relationships, our dreams, our desires.
God bless America.
We are a people so used to choice and freedom that we don't appreciate the hardships we've never had to face.
Let's choose happiness, shall we?

Pondering things,

Sarah, aka "Plucky", blogs on the reg, unless she's on vacation or there's a Pretty Little Liars marathon or she's mulling over the implications of the phrase "on fleek." She can't live without iced coffee, a portable phone charger, or equal pay. Say hello!
