Blogging About the Real World

So, it's Memorial Day weekend. I won't even talk about how inconceivable it is that we have reached this point in the year already....

I want to take a moment to share a weird quirk of mine that maybe you've picked up on.

I have an aversion to blogging about real-world stuff. Like Boston. Like Oklahoma. Like veterans.

It's not that they are unimportant to me or off my radar, just that I somehow feel like I'm cheapening the disaster, the pain, the loss, the grief, the enormity of the situation by whittling it down to a few passing words of respect or pity.

With that being said, Memorial Day is a pretty important holiday. As Americans, we have every right to ride the high of this 3-day weekend spent in tents around the glow of campfires toasting our coozies as well as our s'mores.

I'm a bit of a bleeding heart hippie, but not when it interferes with people celebrating. Just trying to be more intentional about the remembering the reason for the season. Is this adulthood??

We come, not to mourn our dead soldiers, but to praise them. -Francis A. Walker

Happy Memorial Day to you! Thank you to those we remember today. We will praise you with a dance.

Sarah, aka "Plucky", blogs on the reg, unless she's on vacation or there's a Pretty Little Liars marathon or she's mulling over the implications of the phrase "on fleek." She can't live without iced coffee, a portable phone charger, or equal pay. Say hello!
