That's All She Wrote

source
I heard someone say once that "every hot girl with a camera thinks she's a photographer." While it may be a bit of a stretch, there is a ring of truth to it. It got me to thinking... Does every twenty-something blogger think she's a writer?

I mean, obviously if we're blogging, we think we've got something important to say and if people are reading it, then there's a decent chance we're saying it well. If that's all true, then yes. Yes, we are all writers.

Do you ever wonder about the countless number of talented individuals who never had word processors to get their thoughts out on paper? While there are tons of writers in our world today, there are still so many untold stories.

As a girl who loves to read and feels compelled [occasionally] to write, I get uber intimidated by all of the talent out there in the world. The little voices inside our heads know just the right words to say to take the wind out of sails, don't' they?

"You're not a real writer."
"You don't have anything new or important to say."
"Get a real job, ya hippie."

Geez, my inner voice is a real charmer, eh?

For a girl who prides herself on taking risks and having adventures, this risk has just been too huge to bear in any kind of serious way.

Recently, I was inspired by my bloggy homegirl Lauren with this writing biz. I started using [and loving] Penzu and ....wait for it....
I am writing!

Some weird little perfectionist inside of me [who does not speak up about anything else. like, literally. she could care less about how clean the inside of my car is and a 3-point-something was a good enough GPA and if I could lose a few pounds but still eat donuts for breakfast, so be it. but writing?!? she's a stickler. #perfectionornothing] rears her ugly head and says, "Terrible word choice. Aren't you using a few too many pronouns in that paragraph? Who would read this? Where are you going with this plot development? Your characters are flat and predictable. Blah. Blah. Blah."

Until very recently, this little twit inside my head was even judgmental of how I write in my diary! What?! So we're learning to tune her out, friends. YOU are helping. I can't begin to count the instances of support and love and reassurance and "You are writing? That's awesome! You're a great writer. You should definitely be writing" comments I've received.

When I publish my first bestseller, you all will be in the Dedicated To.

Sarah, aka "Plucky", blogs on the reg, unless she's on vacation or there's a Pretty Little Liars marathon or she's mulling over the implications of the phrase "on fleek." She can't live without iced coffee, a portable phone charger, or equal pay. Say hello!

  2. ahhh I just saw her write about that site and I'm sooo going to sign up for it as well. Although so far I only got up the courage to open the website. I can only imagine how it's going to be when I try to start writing.
